Decarbonization+ Academy

Overview: NWG'S Decarbonization+

The Decarbonization Academy is an eight-week summer program that was established in 2022 to provide students the opportunity to help realize UVA's sustainability goals, specifically those pertaining to the reduction of carbon. The second iteration of the program was renamed the Decarbonization+ Academy, in order to consider UVA's other sustainability goals and provide a space for the humanities in the program. In the summer of 2023, the NWG joined the Decarbonization+ Academy as part of the "+," and worked to improve the C-NFT. Three interns, Becky Wisnewski, Emma Vorathiankul, and Liv Beidler. They researched  produced a final written report, summarizing their findings for the summer.

Another NWG member, Maddie Morphis, also participated in the Decarbonization+ Academy as a part of the Forest Patches project, which is described here.
