The NWG collaborates with SWAP in order to advance a collective mission: promoting sustainability. By encouraging students to acquire "new" clothes by swapping out their old ones for another student's instead of purchasing them from fast-fashion brands, SWAP is making an impact on UVA's footprint and positively impacting the Charlottesville and global community.
The Laundry Project
The NWG and SWAP have something else in common: laundry. Because where there are clothes, there is laundry, and where there is laundry, there is energy. Washing your clothes in cold water, rather than warm or hot, is better for your clothes and also reduces energy used by a washing machine by 90%. SWAP and NWG have collaborated on Instagram to promote washing laundry in cold water. In addition, the NWG has promoted washing in cold water at SWAP's Big SWAP event every semester. We are excited to continue our collaboration with SWAP in semesters to come!
