UVA Housing and Residence Life (HRL)

NWG X HRL

Housing, as a central part of students' lives, is also a central part of sustainability at UVA. The NWG has benefitted from collaborating with UVA Housing and Residence Life (HRL) in a variety of capacities to help make student life at UVA more green-focused and sustainable. We look forward to continuing this collaboration as UVA continues to emphasize greener housing practices.

Projects:

Let This Sink In:
While also a collaboration with UVA's Office of Sustainability, the Let This Sink In project is a pilot program that couldn't be implemented without the support of HRL. Their support of this project enabled us to install the first two rounds of this project in the Page-Emmett dorm. With the continued support of HRL, the NWG hopes to continue to install signage in the Page-Emmett dorm and more dorms across Grounds. Check out the posters we've designed and distributed to the UVA community on the page highlighting our work with the Office for Sustainability.

The Laundry Project
The Laundry Project was commenced by a student in the NWG in order to inform students at UVA of the importance of sustainable laundry. This project is still in development, but in collaboration with HRL it is slated to manifest in dorms and have a large impact on the prevalence of sustainable laundry habits. Like Let This Sink In, the first round of this project will be centered in the Page-Emmett dorm. For more information on this project, check out our Laundry Project Page. The NWG owes, to a large degree, the implementation of this project in UVA dorms to the collaboration with HRL and its Sustainability Committee.
