Native-Land.ca seeks to create greater awareness about traditional indigenous territories, particularly among settlers now inhabitting these indigenous places. By erasing the political boundaries of the colonized landscape and replacing them with approximations of traditional indigenous territorial claims, Native-Land.ca reimagines familiar maps portraying settler concepts of space. Although Native-Land.ca does not necessarily depict legal landholdings or the current locations of indigenous peoples, the overlapping maps of traditional homelands invite viewers to consider the deep history of the land and those who have long inhabitted it.
