Testimonials

"Hello! My name is Fabiola Torres-Rodríguez, and I was part of the in-person Learning Hub that took place during my first semester at UVA. Participating in the Learning Hub last fall semester was a very positive experience for me. One of the techniques that most helped me was learning to study in a more active way, especially practicing how to remember and recall information without always relying too much on my notes. This personally helped me understand the materials in the courses I was taking and feel more confident whenever I studied for exams. It also helped me apply these skills to future courses and other times when I will need to study. My mentor always supported me, and through her teaching of the different methods that promoted deep processing, these techniques helped me organize my work whenever I felt overwhelmed or needed to be more organized. Something that made this Learning Hub program unique was that it focused on every single student and how each of us learned better. The Learning Hub not only taught me study strategies, but it also helped me grow as a student and learn to trust my skills more. Thank you to Learning Hub and the team!" - Fabiola Torrez-Rodriquez, Class of 2029

"When I showed up to the Learning Hub on the first day I did not know what to expect. I had signed up for it as it was recommended to me as an opportunity to learn valuable skills that could help me in my classes. I didn't realize it at the time, but I would be walking away from this program with a plethora of great studying approaches, test-taking strategies, different ways to understand in-class lectures, and a brand new perspective of learning in general. My mentor, Veronica Pitts, was a fantastic educator and resource throughout the entire process and beyond. She always checked in on us regarding the content we were working with, but I also really appreciated how much she cared about our lives outside of the Learning Hub. One of my favorite parts of the Learning Hub was getting to apply the techniques to my everyday life in my classes. I found myself thinking back to our sessions and trying new ways to do my work. I am so grateful for this experience, and I would recommend it to anyone who is even considering it as it opened up a world of endless possibilities for me."
