Want to become a more effective and independent learner?
The Learning Hub helps first-year students develop evidence-based study strategies grounded in cognitive science. Through guided practice and interactive activities, students learn how to study more effectively, monitor their understanding, and make informed decisions about using learning tools, including AI.
Our programs include:
- In-Person Learning Hub Program (Fall Semester): Six sessions conducted in small groups, led by trained undergraduate mentors. Students practice effective learning strategies and apply them directly to their coursework.
- Online Learning Hub Program (Fall Semester): Six self-paced sessions designed to provide flexible access to evidence-based learning strategies. Currently unavailable: Following a user experience study, the online program is under review during Fall 2026.
- Learning Workshops (Spring Semester): Stand-alone, one-hour workshops focusing on specific learning strategies and practical applications.
Fall 2026 Enrollment
The in-person Learning Hub program has 20 spots available for first-year students in Fall 2026. Due to high demand, participation is limited to first-year students.

As a Student Assistant
The Learning Hub provides undergraduate students with opportunities to gain hands-on experience in teaching, mentoring, and research in cognitive science and education.
Student assistants contribute to the program through two main roles:
- Undergraduate Mentor: Leads small-group learning sessions, supports first-year students in developing effective learning strategies, and participates in weekly training and team meetings. Mentors gain experience applying cognitive science principles to teaching and facilitating student learning. This position is limited to fourth-year undergraduate students.
- Research Assistant: Contributes to research on learning, metacognition, and AI-assisted learning through activities such as data collection, organization, analysis, and interpretation. Research assistants gain experience with different stages of the research process, from study design to communicating findings through presentations and posters.
