Zeiss SteREO Discovery V8

Choosing a high-quality crystal is the first step for getting a high-quality structural determination. Our lab is equipped with two Zeiss SteREO Discovery V8 microscopes. Both microscopes are configured to optimize its versatility for both teaching and research purposes. With a maximum 80x magnification on one and 120x on the other, even small crystals can be identified and mounted. The 3-position phototubes allow images to be fed to the mounted Sony Alpha A6000 camera without losing the stereo view through the eyepieces. A high-definition monitor mounted near the microscope displays the camera feed to be displayed in real-time during crystal selection. Both microscopes are equipped with cross-polarization to help with the selection of crystals that are truly single. Cold LED light sources provides illumination. Both are set up to operate primarily with transmitted light sources, and the 80x microscope also has reflected light sources on goosenecks to illuminate non-transparent samples.
