Janay Crabtree is an assistant professor of linguistics, general faculty, the Director of the University of Virginia (UVA) TESOL Certificate Program and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program, & the lead instructor for the Center for American English Language & Culture (CAELC) which supports all the international populations at UVA.  She received her M.A. in English with ESL Emphasis and Ph.D. in Linguistics with specialization in second language acquisition. Her academic interests include TESOL teacher training, perception and adaptation of accented speech, and intercultural classrooms where she has been teaching diverse populations for more than twenty years. These days she is vastly interested in helping her linguistics structure students understand English through comparing the structures of lesser known languages.  This knowledge she hopes to share with the program through a community-engaged program and course that culminates in a competition for VA high-school students called “Lingletes.”
