The DIGITAL(ian) Journey

Composite image of works and tools The DIGITAL(Ian) Journey is a multi-platform project using Goethe’s Italian Journey as source material to demonstrate the usefulness of various digital platforms in terms of accessibility, pedagogy, and research. The particular aim was to create dynamic research and educational projects that can be updated "on the fly" as well as accessible and flexible pedagogical tools, which can constantly be updated and improved. Some of these projects already exist (like interactive maps), but students can “learn by doing”. When constructing something like an interactive program students have to make choices concerning selection, arrangement, pedagogy, and clarity.

The Museum of Human-Nature Connectedness

View of the MOHNC welcome kiosk 2024 VRC Intern Kathryn Hart has made a virtual museum dedicated to Human-Nature Connectedness. Creating virtual galleries helps us visualize object relationships within a space. They force students to address scale and positioning when setting up a thematic exhibition.

From the curator’s description: “The relationship between humans and nature is profound. While this bond is deeply rooted at the core of all creation, its importance is often deemed trivial in the contemporary anthropogenic era. Confronting this revelation requires an innovative approach. Through diverse cultural lenses and unconventional perspectives, the Museum of Human-Nature Connectedness explores personifications of nature and animal hybridization to stimulate questions surrounding the use of anthropomorphism and animism in bridging the human world with the natural one.” Check out the full gallery by following the link!
