The Study of South Asia has flourished at the University of Virginia since the 1960s, when the Center received its first Title VI grant. Today, some thirty-five scholars who are primarily or exclusively dedicated to the study of South Asia work at the University of Virginia, and another twenty work in associated fields of research.
The program is fully interdisciplinary and is supported by faculty members and graduate students in the Departments of American Studies; Anthropology; Art; English; Economics; History; Media Studies; Middle Eastern and South Asian Languages and Cultures; Politics; Religious Studies; Sociology; and Women and Gender Studies. Faculty in the Schools of Business (Darden), Engineering, Education and Human Development, Law, and beyond also contribute to relevant research and our programs.
