While the extent to which fluoride is harmful is still poorly understood, certain policies do already exist to provide guidelines for acceptable levels of fluoride in water sources. However, much of the world lacks consistent enforcement for adhering to these guidelines.
In some areas endemically exposed to excess fluoride, such as in India, some government schemes have been put into place to help mediate the problem. However, they have been mostly unsuccessful in managing the problem.
