Belonging in Chemistry

Chemistry is for everyone! Just like the reagents in any reaction, every chemist brings something unique to the scientific community. Connect with the below resources to further build your confidence, identity, and community.

How can I overcome a lack of motivation in my chemistry courses?

College-level science courses can be incredibly difficult and overwhelming at times. Hear from your fellow students on how to navigate these struggles and stay encouraged:

Don’t compare your progress or grades to others. Everyone has different starting points and circumstances. What really matters is the experience and growth you gain throughout college, not how quickly or easily you achieved something.

Keep showing up, even when you feel lost or like you're not making progress because every piece of effort adds up over time.
Hadessah J.,

Don't let the challenge of chemistry discourage you; being challenged means that you are gaining more from your education. Chemistry has not been easy, but it's improved my work ethic tenfold and has taught me how to study efficiently and think critically. The challenges have made me a stronger student, preparing me for grad school and a life of continual learning. I encourage anyone considering chemistry to embrace the difficulty and see it as an opportunity for personal growth.
