Bridging Science, Art, and Community in the New Arctic

Hosted by the UVA Arctic CoLab, "Bridging Science, Art and Community in the New Arctic” seeks to broaden the impact of science and work with communities in the rapidly changing Arctic region. The workshop is organized around a core question that focuses on a human-relevant, spatial scale of the Arctic landscape. That question is: how does the changing Arctic landscape affect the natural, built, and cultural environments of the Arctic system? A symposium will be followed by two days of discussion and workshops on integrating science, communities, and culture, with musical performances by Grammy-winning group Eigth Blackbird and an art showing titled "A Quick and Tragic Thaw."

September 23rd - 25th, 2019, on the University of Virginia Grounds
