The 2022 Virginia Clean Energy and Catalysis Summit was a testiment to the value of experimentation. One may expect that the transition from online to in-person would result in lousy turnout, especially for a newcomer like the VACECC; despite this, we defied all expectations, boasting a turnout more impressive than the last! Nearly 90 scientists and engineers gathered in the Dome Room of the historic UVA Rotunda to witness the cutting-edge of various topics in clean energy and catalysis, presented by leaders in the field. In addition to research-specific presentations, participants also received advanced characterization tutorials from beamline scientist Dr Hua Zhou (Argonne National Lab) and in-situ microscopist Dr. Qian He (National University of Singapore). Attendees also had the special oppurtunity to enter into open discourse with Cell Press editor Michelle Muzzio regarding the process of publication. We dedicate this success to all of our participants and invited guests for making this year even better than the last!
We offer a special thanks to our distinguished lecturers – Prof. Christophe Copéret of ETH Zürich and Prof. Madhi Abu-Omar of University of California at Santa Barbara – for travelling out to share their exciting advances with us. Thanks to our sponsorship from Reptar, our distinguished lecturers were awarded with mesmerizing and iridescent crystal trophies, engraved with "VA CECC 2022 Distinguished Lectureship Award" — a truly fitting award for such brilliant scientists.
