Welcome! I am a Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Virginia. My research interests are in development economics, political economy, and public economics, with a particular focus on governance and the delivery of public benefits and services. I am on the Board of Reviewing Editors at Science, a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), an affiliate of the Bureau for Research and Economic Analysis of Development (BREAD), an affiliate of the Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), and co-Scientific Director of J-PAL South Asia. Prior to UVA, I taught at Dartmouth College from 2009-2016, received my PhD from Harvard University in 2009, worked at NERA, the Brookings Institution, and the Center for Global Development between 2000-2004, and got a BA from Swarthmore College (with Highest Honors) in 2000.
