The Repair Lab
This collection was made possible by the Repair Lab, a nonprofit run through the Karsh Institute for Democracy at the University of Virginia. From 2020 - 2024, the Repair lab investigated the causes, consequences and responses to environmental and climate injustice, with a focus on the relationship among climate change, housing, and community advocacy in Virginia. Beginning from the premise that racial injustice and climate change are the two most urgent challenges facing democracies today, the Repair Lab worked with practitioners-in-residence working to raise awareness about the disproportionate impact of pollution and climate change on their communities. This collection emerged from these efforts.
The oral history interviews were conducted by Haley French and Katie Wu, graduate students at the University of Virginia. French holds a Masters in History from UVA, and is a native of Portsmouth, Virginia. Wu is a Ph.D. student in History studying race and the history of reparations in the United States. They conducted these interviews from June 2023 - November 2023. Adrian Wood conducted interviews in conjunction with the creation of two podcasts, Wading Between Two Titans (released in October 2022) and Crosswinds (released in May 2024).
