Curriculum vitae

I received my PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and have been on the faculty of the Department of Economics at the University of Virginia since 2000.  I am currently an affiliated researcher of the Michigan Retirement and Disability Research Center, the Retirement Income Institute, and the TIAA Institute.

My research focuses on retirement and saving behavior of older Americans, with topics including Social Security, annuities and housing wealth in retirement, long-term care insurance, workplace retirement and health insurance benefits, and Medicaid long-term care.

Other research topics have included policy impacts on same-sex marriage, employment screening tools, and household bargaining.  My research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Social Security Administration, and other organizations.
