As an agricultural economist, Dr. Shermain Hardesty has focused on the production and marketing of many food and beverage products. She began examining tea when she was appointed director of the University of California’s Small Farm Program in 2007. Since retiring from UC Davis, she has continued to work on developing California’s nascent tea industry. She also team-teaches a UC Davis interdisciplinary undergraduate course, Global Tea Science and Culture. She covers global trends in tea production and trade, factors affecting its global supply and demand, its importance to the economies of developing countries, and its marketing in the United States.
