Colin Orians received his PhD in Entomology at Pennsylvania State University. At Tufts University he is a Professor and Chair of Biology. His research explores how plants respond to native and invasive herbivores, and to global change factors. His research group has worked on many issues, including hemlock responses to invasive herbivores, resilience of coffee agroecosystems, the impact of viruses on the demography of native butterflies, and the effects of climate and herbivores on tea quality. Our work in tea has shown that tea quality declines in response to increasing temperature and precipitation, but herbivores can alter their impacts.
