This piece is a bit shallow, and trades on a simplistic understanding of Protestant Mainline decline (there's a really interesting story here waiting to be told), but the final conceit is interesting--alongside a "faith based engagement" specialist, what if Democratic campaigns hired a "nones engagement" specialist? Or a "spiritual but not religious" specialist? That could be interesting. If politicians would recognize, as I think they should, that politics is no longer "the economy, stupid" (if it ever was), we'd see more powerful messaging. I suspect that that would be aided by people who are alert to voters' values and existential orientation.
