He urges graduates to apply what they've learned at the University to improve our world. President Casteen has presided over 20 commencement ceremonies at U.Va. This year's ceremony marks his last as president as he is to retire at the end of July.


General Assembly Commends Casteen for Years of Service

03/02/10 - The Virginia General Assembly approved a joint resolution recognizing University of Virginia President John T. Casteen III. The resolution, presented to Casteen on March 2, 2010 on the floor of the state Senate, commends the retiring president for his leadership in higher education, which has "made the University of Virginia what Thomas Jefferson envisioned – the capstone of public education in Virginia.

9/16/09 - Nearly 350 guests and members of the University community gathered at the Virginia Historical Society in Richmond to celebrate the Campaign for the University of Virginia. President John T. Casteen III and local members of the National Committee on University Resources (NCOUR) hosted the event, which was dedicated to the University and its future.

He focused his remarks to parents and students on the transition from high school to college; the health and safety of students (including availability of vaccines for both seasonal and novel H1N1 flu); the honor system; and on student opportunities ranging from getting to know the professors to studying abroad.
