Anna Katherine (Clemmons) Clay is a freelance writer and an adjunct professor in the Department of Media Studies at the University of Virginia. She obtained a Master's of Science in Journalism from Boston University in 2005. She is a 12-year veteran writer, reporter and producer for ESPN; her reporting adventures have included riding on a combine harvester with Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson through Kansas wheat fields and witnessing a backyard game of H-O-R-S-E between former NBA great Dell and current two-time NBA MVP Steph Curry at the elder Curry’s home (she won’t reveal who won). She has also written freelance pieces for numerous publications including: The New York Times, Glamour Magazine, The Washington Post Magazine, USA Today, the Virginia alumni magazine, Sports Illustrated, Blue Ridge Outdoors, Conde Nast Traveler and more. Her areas of expertise are traditional news journalism, feature writing, reporting, interviewing, editing, how to cover a live sporting event, sports features and profiles (both written and film), how to produce a sports TV segment, the intersection of sports and politics, sports and storytelling, and finding the humanity within the sports world.

Anna Katherine also teaches Sports Journalism, Women and Television and Sports Media Production in the Media Studies department at UVA; and had pitched a course on Global Sport Culture and Development, looking at sports and athletics through an international lens. She lives in Charlottesville, VA, with her husband and their two young sons.
