I'm Professor of Philosophy and currently Department Chair at the University of Virginia.  I work on 17th and 18th century European philosophy, with special interest in figures such as Gassendi, Locke, and Shepherd, and topics such as causation, freedom, rationality, and canon formation.  I co-founded and now co-edit the Journal of Modern Philosophy.
