Jump Start

If your summer plans are already set, consider joining us for Jump Start, a 1-credit class that allows you to have both a "live" class experience as well as self-paced work.

How is college different from high school? What characteristics and habits support student success in college? What does science say about how you learn? Why should you utilize university resources? What "ingredients" will help you belong?

Join us for this engaging 1-credit online course that will help you translate your high school academic life skills to your new college setting. Together we will explore habits of mind and practical strategies that will help you make a successful leap to UVA.

Throughout our four weeks, you will have opportunities to get to know your fellow incoming students as well as current UVA students who have gone before you. We trust these relationships will help you enter the fall semester with connections and courage to find your "home" at UVA. We also offer you a tour of academic and wellness resources from across the university so you can begin your first year with awareness of the variety of support services offered to students.

This graded, 1-credit class begins on Monday, July 17 and concludes on Thursday, August 10. The class does not meet on Fridays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we will meet "live" over Zoom from 10:30AM- 12:00PM EST. On Mondays and Wednesdays, there will be guided content to review on your own time.

The College covers all costs associated with Jump Start, including tuition, fees, and course materials! This class is capped at 20 students.

Underrepresented, first-generation, and low-income students are especially encouraged to apply.
