Welcome! We are a diverse group of ecosystem ecologists led by Dr. Howard (Howie) Epstein in the University of Virginia's Department of Environmental Sciences. Our projects and interests range from the South Dakota rangelands to Virginia temperate forests to the Alaskan tundra, where we investigate carbon, nutrient, and energy fluxes and ecosystem and community dynamics. Our techniques include remote sensing, flux tower measurements, and on-the-ground sampling, with the common goal of understanding ecosystem processes and how we interact with them.
