Ineke LaFleur

2019 Summer Research Assistant

Growing up in Charlottesville, Ineke came to realize how often African American history was and is overlooked by the people, institutions, and systems that seize control of the narrative. The question ‘What are we missing?’ inspires her to learn as much as she can about history, natural science, and literature. She also believes that the key to painting a more complete picture of the past is making history more accessible via technology and global networks. For the summer, Ineke will be focusing on the Getting Word project at Monticello. Ineke said that of all the historical time periods she could live in, she would choose Enlightenment Era Europe or the 1980s.
