This course studies poverty and health in a number of developing countries and in what are today developed countries. Comparing multiple world regions, we ask how and how much poverty contributes to poor health. We also ask how much and under what conditions elected politicians can alleviate poverty and enhance the health of the people they rule. Each class meeting will combine lecture and ample opportunity for class discussion.
